Book Preview

I am in a writing/publishing class, and its super fun! So far I have written three books!

I am working on one right now, which I am hoping to be my personal best, a couple of my friends have been wanting to read one of my books, so I decided to share a preview of my upcoming book, I still haven’t decided what to name it, but its temporary name is “Understanding” Here is the prologue:

Prologue

Hey Mikael, wanna hang out this weekend??  Mikael read her cell phones screen. It was from her friend Ashley. Ashley and Mikael had been friends ever since they were teens, now they were almost in college.

Sure! When would you like me to come over?? Mikael wrote back.

Any time that works for you, sis! Ashley quickly replied.

Kay… I’ll be over at… how about 10? Mikael suggested.

Yea, that works perfectly!  Ashley smiled at her phone; it has almost been two weeks since they last saw each other, which was way too long.

See ya then! Mikael darted her fingers across her phone screen.

Ashley thought for a moment, and then began to text Kaety back, Can’t wait!!!

Mikael loved hearing from her big sister, Ash. Mikael began to call her that when she was around 13, now they call each other “sisters” all the time!

That weekend Mikael drove to Ashley’s apartment. Mikael lived in Bellingham with her two roommates, Faith and Gillian. They all shared one room, which was quite large compared to their backyard. Mikael cranked up the radio and began to flip through the stations, 104.1… “And today we…“ Mikael switched stations, 105.3 “In Christ alone, my hope is found he-“ Ew, no…. 106.5… “That’s me without You-oo-oo; don’t know where I’d be, without you.” That’s better! Mikael smiled.

After the new, fun songs were over Mikael plugged in her Iphone into her car and put on some dubstep music. Even though she would listen to this kind of music as a kid, she couldn’t get enough of it! Mikael pulled into her friend’s apartment parking lot; she stepped out of her green mustang and began her search for Ashley’s apartment 432, go upstairs turn left at the porch. Mikael recited the directions in her head. A few minutes later Mikael had found Ashley’s apartment. Mikael knocked twice on her door.

“Come in!” Ashley yelled from behind the door.

Mikael opened the door and walked in. She saw a cute room with pale walls, a black couch and love seat, a black coffee table and a lamp sitting on it. Ashley walked out of one of the rooms, “Hey! Sorry I was just doing my hair, it was a mess.”

Mikael giggled, “You didn’t have to do your hair! I’d love you anyways!” Mikael took a step towards Ashley.

“Aw, Thanks Mikael!” Ashley filled the gap and held Mikael close for quick squeeze, “I’ve missed you!”

“Me too!” Mikael let go of Ashley. “Oh, I almost forgot, I brought you a little something!” Mikael pulled out a bucket of Red Vines out of the grocery bag she had brought with her. “Here you go!”

“Oh. My. Gosh. You didn’t buy me this, did you?” Ashley stared at the bucket in her hands.

“No Ash, I just put it in your hands so that you could give it to your dog.” Mikael said sarcastically.

Ashley went along with her sarcasm, “Oh, well then I guess I better give it to him then, I guess.” Ashley began to walk to the kitchen where her huge Great Dane laid on the tiled floor.

“Ash, it’s for you. Dogs can’t eat licorice; it’s bad for their teeth!” Mikael followed her to the kitchen.

“Oh, well in that case!” Ashley opened the bucket and pulled out four pieces of licorice, “Want some?” Mikael nodded and pulled out 2 pieces. “So,” Ashley began, “How have you been the past two weeks?” she stated to the love seat in the living room.

“Same as always, struggling to pull out some money for the rent, it’s hard, being manager and all and then owning a gallery.” She sat next to Ash on the love seat.

Ashley nodded, “I hear you!” Ashley and Mikael shared a gallery with their artwork inside.

“Well, enough about my depressing life, how’s photography going?” Ashley loved to take pictures, whenever she had the chance she’d be using her camera or Iphone to take pictures. Mikael recalled a time when Ashley was in school, she’d like all of her photos on Facebook or Instagram.

“Not bad! Actually, I just got accepted yesterday to set up some photos at the fair.” Ashley replied smiling.

“That’s great!” Mikael grinned.

“Are you coming to the fair?” Ashley asked.

“Most likely,” Mikael elbowed Ashley’s rib. “Can’t leave all the fun to my big sis, now can I?”

“I guess not,” Ashley smiled. “But you have to promise me something,”

“If it’s something about going on the Zipper, count me out.” Mikael joked.

“No,” Ashley smiled. “I was thinking me and you go one something like the drop or something that goes upside down, even a little bit.”

Mikael sighed, “Alright, but you have to promise me something as well.”

“Anything!” Ashley promised.

“That it doesn’t stay upside-down!” Mikael smiled.

“Darn, you got me again!” Ashley lightly punched her on the shoulder the way they always did.

“I just know you too well I guess!” Mikael laughed.

Ashley laughed along with her. After a while of chatting Ashley brought up a depressing question, “So…” she paused, “How are you doing, after his death and everything?”

Mikael’s bright eyes suddenly faded, “well…” she tried hiding the truth, but she knew that was impossible, tears threatened to pour from Mikael’s eyes, “It’s horrible, I miss him so much!” a tear rolled down Mikael’s cheek.

“Oh Kaely,” Ashley would call Mikael, Kaely every now and then; “I’m so sorry,” Ashley stretched her arms wide for Mikael to come into them. When Kaely fell into her arms Ashley said, “I shouldn’t have brought it up, I’m sorry.”

“No,” Mikael squeezed her even tighter, “I needed to get this out.” Almost two years back, Mikael’s friend Eric got in a car crash when he was driving. A drunk-driver hit him at 75-miles per hour with a pick-up truck. Eric died immediately at the scene. “I just wish…” she trailed off.

“Shhh… it’s ok.” Ash stroked Mikael’s back.

“We had so many plans together. We were gonna…” she sniffed “…start raising money for our family. He wanted to be with me, he loved me.” Mikael continued to sob.

“No, he loves you” Ashley corrected Kaely, “he loved God more than he loved you right?” Kaely nodded, “He’s waiting for you right now with Jesus, got it?” Ashley said comfortingly.

“Right,” Kaely said quietly, Oh God, why did you take him away from me? I loved him! I don’t understand! Mikael continued to cry in Ashley’s navy blue and white striped cardigan.

Ashley let go of Kaely and held her shoulders, “you can’t go back in time, what’s done is done, ok?” Ashley held Mikael’s eye contact.

Mikael stared deep into Ashley’s eyes and saw the comfort and love of her big sister. Ash was right, Mikael needed to let it go, “ok, thanks Ash,”

“Anytime sis,” Ashley winked at her.
