Bambi… Bad! Icky bugs…. Good!

Some people think that deer are the cutest things that roam the earth, I too like to watch them prance though our yard from time to time. They do tend to be a bit of annoyance when they eat all your flowers that you’ve been eager to see pop up- or when they prance out into traffic and cause someone to go flying through your yard in their pickup truck!

Check this out!

It was Tuesday, April 21st- the kids had gotten up from their afternoon naps and were playing outside with their bikes and digging holes in the yard. I decided to start getting myself ready so I could take them to the park to play (yeah, right.) So I finished changing my clothes (home school moms don’t tend to get themselves ready till  late in the day, so what?!) and went to the computer to check my facebook one more time (like you’re not hooked either!) When all of a sudden I heard this really loud, metalic crashing sound and my first thought was “What did those kids do now?” Then it was followed by a rumbling, earthquake kind of sound and as I turned around to look outside, I saw a blue toyota pickup truch flying down the hill in our yard and into a tree. I stood in shock for a minute as thoughts ran through my head like, “Is this really happening? Is this a joke? Why is there no one in the driver’s seat? Did someone just roll their truck into my yard? Why? Oh dear Lord…. My Kids!!!!”  The last I knew, Camden and Keirsten were outside playing! I began screaming their names as I ran outside to look for them…. no answer…. I came back inside as I yelled for Kaety and when she answered I asked her where they were, she said they were upstairs playing on the computer. Thank God!

I then noticed there was someone in the truck so I reached for the phone and dialed 911 as I went back outside to check on the girl  who was now sitting up and bleeding from her mouth. I talked with the 911 dispatch lady for a little bit filling her in on the situation and the gals condition, we hung up and by then my neighbor had came across the yard to lend a hand- I had him keep an eye on her while I went to get her some tissue for her mouth and reassure my kids that everything was okay. Then within 5 minutes I had two ambulance, Sudden Valley security, a couple cops  and the gals aunt and uncle at my house.

It turned out that the 27 year old girl came up and around the corner near our house (rather quickly, I assume) and saw a dear at the top. She swerved to miss it, took out the speed limit sign which she dragged into the middle of the street (that was the loud metalic sound I heard) and then into our yard, hitting our trash can, taking out our rodadendrun (?) bush, steered through the rest of the trees down the hill in our yard and into our tree at the bottom. I think she knocked over onto the passenger side and probably past out for a minute because I didn’t see her right away. She walked away with just a bloody lip, she hit her head on the dashboard which caused her to bite through her lip.

All is well, the truck was towed a few hours later and everone is fine! I went inside after it was all over to just hug my kids and thank God for protecting them. Keirsten told me they were outside playing but got scared by all the icky bugs so they decided to go inside….. Praise the Lord for icky bugs! They do have a good purpose after all!
